About the Commercial Vehicle Centre

History of the Commercial Vehicle Centre

Commercial Vehicle Centre was established in 1985 after a locally-based company purchased H E Melhop Ltd from the Melhop family, who was the first company in New Zealand to import the Nissan (Datsun) and UD Truck products from Japan. H E Melhop had two branches - one in Invercargill and one in Dunedin.

In 1989 Commercial Vehicle Centre opened its first Christchurch branch in Blenheim Road, and in 1997 shifted to a purpose-built site at Sockburn. A similar new premise was completed in Dunedin in 2003. CVC has since expanded into Nelson and Invercargill and created a dedicated truck dismantling workshop in Dunedin.

Four Great Locations for South Island-wide Service

Commercial Vehicle Centre is a South Island owned and operated company that operates from four locations in Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, and Nelson. We also have Parts and Service agents in other strategic locations throughout the South Island, offering a 24hour call-out service.

All four branches have large well-equipped workshops, servicing UD Trucks and Hyundai Trucks as well as all other heavy transport-related equipment. Our Nelson branch is the local service agent for Southpac servicing their Kenworth, DAF and Cummins products and our Invercargill and Dunedin branches also are parts and service agents for Western Star and MAN trucks.

New and Used Trucks for Sale

Commercial Vehicle Centre sells a complete range of new UD Trucks (Nissan Diesel) and is the South Island distributor of Hyundai Trucks. With our four sales locations, we have the largest range of new and used trucks in the South Island. We also have a comprehensive range of UD Truck parts at all locations, as well as a large stock of other truck and trailer parts.

Truck Dismantling and Second-hand Parts

CVC is also a specialist truck dismantler. Not only do we dismantle and salvage trucks at all our South Island centres, but we also have a stand-alone branch in Dunedin where we concentrate on the UD Trucks (Nissan Diesel) product only.

MITO Heavy Transport Apprenticeship with CVC

Commercial Vehicle Centre proudly participates in MITO’s Heavy Traffic Apprenticeship scheme. At any one time, we have three apprentices in our workshops and are proud to be involved in their ongoing training and mentorship.

We also offer pre-training work experience.
